Light on the Mountain Ministries

Light on the Mountain Ministries is a network of Pocono area churches reaching out to our community with the love of Jesus Christ.

The focus of the ministries is to encourage the churches and their members to work together for the purpose of organizing evangelical events to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. This process involves the members of many churches united together in prayer, work and fellowship as they prepare to present such events to the community.

In the past, we have conducted successful events that have made a strong impact in our neighborhoods.

Team Impact - a group of strong men that perform amazing feats of strength and conduct an inspirational message.  Held their program in 35 public schools within Eastern Pennsylvania..

Stephen Tchividjian - outreach programs for youth, held by a son-in-law of Dr. Billy Graham.

Michael Card - Christian music concert

Light in the Park - Dansbury Park, August, 2004; West End Fairground: July, 2005, September 2006 & September 2007

History:

The ministry got its start in 2002 when East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church sent out letters to other Pocono churches asking if there might be an interest in bringing Franklin Graham to our area as a Christian outreach. Several churches responded, but upon meeting to discuss arrangements for this crusade, we soon realized that with our limited finances and manpower, this would not be feasible as our first concerted effort.

We discussed other possible outreach events and finally decided on bringing in Team Impact, a group of Christian strong men who presented a powerful message in a very unique way. January 13, 2003, started a seven-day event which included thirty-five school assemblies (in all four school districts) with messages that dealt with the special problems teens are facing today. School principals hailed it as the best assembly ever. The most rewarding result of the school assemblies involved a young man who was going to commit suicide the very day of Team Impact’s performance. After hearing the encouraging message of hope from these powerful speakers, this young man reversed his decision and chose life to face his problems. In addition to the school assemblies during the day, there were also seven evening performances- four nights at East Stroudsburg University and three at Pocono Mountain East Middle School. We experienced a packed house at every performance and had to set up an overflow room to handle all who came. These strong men, some of whom were world-renown athletes, amazed their audiences with feat after feat of amazing acts of strength, holding everyone in awe and ending with a message of hope for all.

With the success of Team Impact, the churches involved in its production felt an overwhelming sense of bonding as they had done the nearly impossible- brought sixteen churches of varying Christian denominations together to bring a message of hope to the community. They decided to stay together, and thus “Light on the Mountain Ministries” was conceived.

To date, member churches (those who support LMM on a yearly basis) include the following: Bushkill Reformed Church, Christian Life Assembly, East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, Mount Eaton Church, New Covenant World Outreach, Pleasant Valley Assembly of God, Pocono Mountain Bible Fellowship Church, and Salem United Church of Christ. Participating (those who contribute but not as yearly members) churches include: Berean Bible Fellowship Church, Calvary Bible Church, Effort United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, Light of the World Church, McMichaels United Church of Christ, Northwinds Church, and Youth for Christ.

Since Team Impact, we have conducted other successful events that have made a strong impact in our neighborhoods, but our most successful recurring event is the annual Light in the Park which is celebrating its fifth year in 2008 at the West End Fair Grounds. Light in the Park boasts visitors from all over the Poconos, the Slate Belt area, and even Allentown and beyond.
